Timing of the first detection of each congenital condition group
Some types of congenital condition are more likely to be detected antenatally than others. Across major condition subgroups, Figure 5 shows that conditions such as abdominal wall (95.2%), nervous system (89.8%) and kidney and urinary conditions (85.9%) were most frequently identified antenatally. Only 2.2% of genital conditions were identified antenatally. Individual conditions within these subgroups may not follow these patterns.
Babies with more than one condition will be represented in each applicable condition subgroup. A breakdown by specific congenital condition, including the number of babies reported, is available in Data table 5.
