Part 3: Age
Age when FGM was undertaken
Where the age when FGM was undertaken was recorded, FGM was undertaken for most individual attendees between the ages of 5 and 10 years old. The chart below shows the percentage of individual attendances by the age when FGM was undertaken and NHS commissioning region.
Individual attendance counts for 2024-25 by the age when FGM was undertaken and NHS commissioning region is provided in table 3.1 of the Data Tables.
Known age when FGM was undertaken
Only 47% of individual women and girls have a known age when FGM was undertaken recorded. Regionally, the proportion of known values varies between 18% and 62%. The 'known' category excludes “Not Recorded” and “Not stated or unknown”.

The charts below show time series for the percentage of individual attendances by the age when FGM was undertaken and the percentage with a known age when FGM was undertaken recorded.

The chart below shows the percentage of individual attendances by the age when FGM was undertaken by FGM Type.

Known age when FGM was undertaken by FGM Type
Only 47% of individual women and girls have a known age when FGM was undertaken recorded. By FGM Type, the proportion of known values varies between 28% and 68%. The 'known' category excludes “Not Recorded” and “Not stated or unknown”.
Age at attendance
Age at attendance was recorded for all attendances. Most individual attendees were aged between 30 and 34. The chart below shows the percentage of individual attendances by age at latest attendance and NHS commissioning region.
Individual attendance counts for 2024-25 by age at latest attendance and NHS commissioning region is provided in table 3.2 of the Data Tables.
Known age at attendance
100% of individual women and girls have a known age at attendance.
