Female Genital Mutilation, Annual Report - April 2024 to March 2025

In total 167 organisations submitted attendance data between April 2024 and March 2025. Most organisations were NHS trusts not providing mental health services (97 organisations), followed by GP practices (63) and then NHS trusts providing mental health services (7). 

The chart below shows the number of organisations submitting attendance data by year and organisation type - see table 1.1 of the Data Tables.

There were 6,980 individual women and girls who had an attendance where FGM was identified in the period April 2024 to March 2025 (Q2 2024 to Q1 2025).

These accounted for 16,300 total attendances reported at NHS trusts and GP practices where FGM was identified.

The number of total attendances during 2024-25 has increased from 14,395 in 2023-24.

Counts of individuals, newly recorded and total attendances by quarter, from April 2015 to March 2025, are provided in Table 1.3 of the Data Tables.

Cumulative individual and total attendances

The FGM Enhanced Dataset was opened ten years ago. Since the collection began, information has been reported by NHS trusts and GP practices about 41,645 individual women and girls, who have, between April 2015 and March 2025, had a total of 118,530 attendances where FGM was identified.

In total there were 16,300 attendances between April 2024 and March 2025. 97% of these were submitted by NHS trusts not providing mental health services (15,865). The chart below shows 2024-25 counts of individuals, newly recorded and total attendances by submitting organisation type - see table 1.4 of the Data Tables.
