Invitations

Women between the ages of 50 and 70 are invited for regular breast screening (every three years) under a national programme. Some women outside this age group may also be invited as part of a research trial, such as the ongoing randomised controlled age extension trial1.

The total number of women aged 45 and over invited for screening decreased by 2.4% to 2.89 million in 2017-18, from 2.96 million in 2016-17. These figures include first invites, routine recall invites and short term recall invites. See Table B.
