User roles and access
User roles
Access to the service is through the role assigned on your NHS smartcard. You will need one of the following role codes on your NHS smartcard to access the service:
| Job role | RBAC code |
|---|---|
| Clinical practitioner | R8000 |
| Nurse | R8001 |
| Health professional | R8003 |
| Health care student | R8004 |
| Medical secretary | R8006 |
| Admin or clinical support | R8008 |
| Receptionist | R8009 |
| Clerical | R8010 |
| Information officer | R8012 |
| Systems support | R8015 |
The functions that you can use within the service will depend on your access code:
Admin users can:
- view, upload, download, and remove documents
- add files to scanned paper notes
- review documents waiting for approval for storage in the service
Clinical users can use all functions except remove.
If you have not been assigned a role, a member of staff within your admin team can request that roles are added to NHS smartcards.
If you need to change the role you have been assigned, you can contact your Registration Authority. For further information read the What is a Registration Authority page.
Errors with signing in
Very occasionally you may find that when you insert your smartcard, it shows you the following error screen.
If you have the correct RBAC code to access the service on your NHS smartcard, then this is due to a technical error.
Take your card out of the reader, wait a few seconds and then put it back in again. This should resolve the problem and allow you access to the service. We are working to understand and resolve this occasional problem.
