For SATOD v2, 4.3% of pregnant women were known to be smokers at the time of delivery in quarter 2 of 2025-26. This compares with 4.7% of pregnant women from the previous quarter. We advise not to make any direct comparisons using data from SATOD v1.

The chart below shows a time series for SATOD v1 to the end of 2024-25 as this is the period where SATOD v1 was the primary source of data for SATOD.  From Q1 2025-26 SATOD v2 figures are used.

 

Percentage known to be smokers by Sub Integrated Care Board (Sub-ICB)

Based on SATOD v2, in quarter 2 of 2025-2026, the lowest proportions of women known to be smokers at time of delivery were in NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent ICB - 05G (1.6%), NHS North West London ICB - W2U3Z (1.7%), NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent ICB - 05V (2.0%), NHS North East and North Cumbria ICB - 99C (2.0%).

Those with the highest proportions were NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB - 00R (10.8%), NHS Cheshire and Merseyside ICB - 01F (10.0%) and NHS North East and North Cumbria ICB - 01H (8.5%).
