Publication, Part of NHS Jobs Adverts in General Practice [Management Information]
NHS Jobs Adverts in General Practice, Q1 2022-23 to Q3 2025-26 [Management Information]
Introduction
NHS Jobs is the official online recruitment service of the NHS in England and Wales and is part of the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA). It advertises approximately 45,000 jobs every month spanning around 7,000 different healthcare employers. Following extensive research sessions with both employers and applicants, a new service was developed in 2022. The NHS Jobs service offers employers full recruitment functionality from creation of job adverts, through to pre-employment checks and managing contracts.
We have worked closely with our NHS Jobs colleagues on the development and presentation of these data. They relate only to jobs advertised by or on behalf of General Practices in England (NHS England does not hold responsibility for publishing data on behalf of the devolved nations of the UK). Adverts from other parts of the Primary Care health sector such as Primary Care Networks or Dentists for example are not included in this release. NHS Jobs advert data in relation to Secondary Care Workforce is already published as part of our NHS Vacancy Statistics publication. However, we would advise against referring to data in this release as ‘Vacancies’ as other publications which use this term do so based on an agreed methodology and definition.
As part of its managed service, NHS Jobs records data on of all the adverts that are placed on it. This includes data items such as;
• The dates job adverts are open and closed
• Unique job advert reference codes
• Job Titles
• Areas of Work
• Staff Groups
• Organisation details
• Working pattern (full/part time)
• FTE (Full Time Equivalent) of advertised job
Some, but not all, of these fields already conform to nationally agreed NWD standards for the recording of workforce data, this facilitates matching for reference purposes and thereby allowing for the accurate aggregation of records. In cases where coding unique to NHS Jobs systems are in place (for example organisation coding) we have been through a recoding exercise to implement this. Combinations of the above listed fields have been used to develop the data presented in this release which we intend to update on a quarterly basis, with data from Q1 (April) 2022/23 onwards.
We hope that these data can be useful to both inform debate and shed light on this previously unreported area.
