Publication, Part of

Female Genital Mutilation, Annual Report - April 2025 to March 2026

Official statistics in development

Partial data available

While producing this year's annual FGM publication we have identified a few problems in our new publication process that means that we are unable to provide a full report at this time. We are working through these issues at the moment and the data will be updated in the near future.

The impacted sections of the report are:

  • Summary - values from last year's publication are stated where values are not available.
  • About the data - no breakdown of FGM types is currently available.
  • Part 6 Overall data completeness - missing one breakdown.
  • FGM Dashboard is not currently included.

We are sorry for any inconvenience.

About the data

Data Quality

Not all data fields are complete in the FGM Enhanced Dataset. Where data has a low level of completeness it is less reliable as the information we are presenting is based on a smaller amount of the overall data. The chart below shows data completeness by field.

Setting

86% of attendances when FGM is identified in a healthcare setting are in Midwifery and Obstetric services.

Age

The average age at attendance between April 2025 and March 2026 was between 30 and 34 years and 2.3% of latest attendances were for girls under the age of 18.

Country

Where both values were known, just over 80% of women and girls were born and had FGM undertaken in an African country.

No breakdown of FGM types is currently available, see note above.
