Autism diagnostic rates

This quarterly report shows the number and proportion of people registered with a GP practice who are recorded as having an autism diagnosis in England.

The number of patients recorded as having an autism diagnosis is available from the Network Contract DES (MI) dataset. This data is available in indicator NCDMI137 from March 2023 until March 2024 and HI21 from April 2024 onwards. This indicator is part of the Tackling Health Inequalities ruleset.

The total GP registered population used as the denominator in the autism diagnostic rate (percentage) calculation is taken from indicators: NCD010 (March 2023), NCDMI200 (April 2023 -March 2024) and HI02 (April 2024 to March 2025). These indicators are also part of the Tackling Health Inequalities ruleset.

From April 2025 onwards the total GP registered population is taken from the Patients Registered at a GP Practice publication.

The data is available at ICB, region and England level. The data is reported monthly and published here quarterly.
