Tobacco prevention programme patient level data collection guidance
Version 5.2
Programme aims and delivery
The Tobacco Dependence Programme supports delivery of NHS-funded tobacco dependence treatment services in line with commitments in the NHS Fit for the Future 10 Year Health Plan for England. Specifically this supports the shift from sickness to prevention and builds on commitments already established within the NHS Long Term Plan.
The main goal includes integrating opt-out smoking cessation interventions in all routine care within hospitals.
This guidance document has been updated to reflect the changes to the Tobacco Dependence Patient Level Collection that are being introduced from April 2026.
You can use this guidance as support; however, if you have any queries regarding your submission, contact us.
