Workforce data hub

Around 1.4 million people make up the NHS workforce in England, all contributing towards its overall effectiveness. Staffing is the single largest cost within the health system, so efforts to improve quality and reduce costs are often dependent on workforce data.

NHS workforce statistics

This report shows monthly FTE and headcount of NHS Hospital and Community Health Services (HCHS) staff. Data is split between staff working in NHS trusts and other core organisations in England and staff working in NHS support organisations and central bodies. Demographic information and turnover measures are also presented.

NHS Vacancy Statistics (and previous NHS Vacancies Survey)

A quarterly compendium publication offering different views of planned staffing levels, advertised FTE and vacancies. Features data from NHS England, ESR, NHS Jobs and Trac.

NHS Staff Earnings Estimates

This report shows average annual earnings for four earnings measures, provisionally showing overall figures for the NHS HCHS workforce.

NHS Sickness Absence Rates

Monthly detailed sickness absence data tables showing rates, and reasons for absence at geographic and staff group breakdowns.

Data on Written Complaints in the NHS

Annual publication detailing counts of complaints made in primary (including dental) and secondary care settings. Data tables present findings on numbers of complaints, reasons for complaints, staff groups complaints are recorded against and upheld status of complaints.

Independent Healthcare Provider Workforce Statistics

Workforce information is provided for staff directly employed in a range of independent healthcare provider (IHP) organisations in England at end of September and end of March from 30 September 2015.
