Two separate tables are included within this analysis. Table 1 replicates the methodology used in the Mental Health Services Monthly Statistics (presented as MHS09) and the Uses of the Mental Health Act, Annual Figures publications. This methodology excludes people who are subject to a short term order, conditional discharge or Community Treatment Order. Table 2 includes all patients who are in hospital and recorded as being subject to the Mental Health Act.
Each table presents a total for England alongside a subsequent count of people detained under specific sections.
