Use resources like posters, screensavers, social media posts and website copy to let your patients know they can register online at your surgery.

Important information

The materials on this page have been refreshed as of March 2026. Please replace any old posters or website copy with the new versions on this page.

About this page and how to use it

This page brings together everything you need to tell patients about online GP registration in a clear and consistent way. It’s designed to help GP practices and primary care teams promote the service confidently across their website, in the practice, and on digital channels.

You’ll find ready-to-use content including:

  • suggested wording for practice websites, newsletters and social media

  • posters, digital banners and waiting room screensavers

  • guidance on QR codes and signposting patients to the right place

Each section explains where and how to use the materials, so you can choose what works best for your practice and your patients. The copy is based on best practice and written to reassure patients that the service is NHS-run, secure and easy to use.

You can use the resources exactly as they are, or adapt them slightly to fit your local tone of voice. Any text shown in square brackets should be hyperlinked to your practices' pecific online registration form.

Before you promote the online registration service

Before you promote the service, you should place the 'copy for website', including the link to the online form for your surgery, on your practice website. This can be found in the section below.

This ensures that patients can confirm if a message they've received is genuine without needing to contact staff directly. Patients can get reassurance they need from the practice website.

Read about how to make your registration link easier to find on your website.

Posters and QR codes

Put posters around your practice, waiting areas and  front door of your practice. Consider having a QR code that patients can scan around your reception or queuing area.

Create your own personalised QR code for free on google QR code generator to direct your patients to your surgery’s online form. Add your QR code to the A4 poster, which you can use to direct your patients to your surgery’s specific online form.

You can also download the materials below which enable patients to search for practices offering online registration using the Find a GP service. The additional posters refer to when you are most likely to need to register with a new GP practice - for example, when you need help with registering, when you are moving house and when you are expecting a new arrival to the family.

Social media images

We've provided PNG images of the designs sized for social media use. These are for use on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, to be used with the wording above.

Your social media posts should include the full link to the service on your website.

Do not use a shortened version in Facebook as this might prevent the link from working.
