About this data

The data is derived direct from eRS and is defined as the initial booking of a referral, excluding re-bookings. This is not the same as the referral itself being made via e-RS (as in some circumstances, this may not be converted and booked via e-RS).

Paper switch off and the revised standard contract is concerned with referrals being made via e-RS, as opposed to the booking, which is what is reported here. NHS England is working towards using SUS+ to become the measure used to ensure compliance with the standard contract.
