Care Identity Management release 8.8

Care Identity Management release 8.8 goes live on 5 February 2026, subject to final approval. 

This release reinstates the ability for:

• sponsors to unlock and renew expired smartcards
• ID checkers to repair and renew expired smartcards

It also includes some backend infrastructure changes.

We expect there to be no downtime during the release.

Errors after the release

There is a small chance that after this release, visitors to Care Identity Management may receive a blank screen or loading error. If this happens, please try these steps:

• force a reload of the page - press Ctrl + F5 (on some computers this can be Fn + F5)
• clear your browser's cache - press Ctrl + Shift + Delete
