This publication of the SHMI relates to discharges in the reporting period January 2016 to December 2016.

These indicators were designed to monitor low birthweight births and to measure what proportion of births occur in NHS hospitals.

The indicators aim to provide clear, comparative information for Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and Health and Wellbeing Boards (HWBs) about the quality of health services commissioned by CCGs and, as far as possible, the associated health outcomes.

These indicators were designed to monitor the number of pregnancies, abortions, and to monitor access to abortion services.
