Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services (NEPTS) dataset - Summary page for data up to and including 2024/25 financial year

Other reports and statistics

Summary

This national minimum dataset is collected to allow for a national and Integrated Care Board (ICB) view of Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services within the NHS, to provide a better understanding of the provider landscape, assurance on performance and spend, and an opportunity for the identification and sharing of good practice.

Highlights

Data periods

This release is the first release and contains data for four six-month periods and one annual period:

  • 1 April 2022 – 30 September 2022 (H1 FY22/23),
  • 1 October 2022 – 31 March 2023 (H2 FY22/23),
  • 1 April 2023 – 30 September 2023 (H1 FY23/24),
  • 1 October 2023 – 31 March 2024 (H2 FY23/24),
  • 1 April 2024 – 31 March 2025 (FY24/25).

Changes to data items

The data items collected from 2024/25 onwards were changed after detailed consultation with commissioners and both NHS and independent sector NEPTS providers.

Data quality

Completeness of data submissions was good in general with around half of ICBs completing over 95% of data items. The question topic areas with more limited completion were Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS), costs (which are not publicly shared) and eligibility criteria, although around half of ICBs still completed these sections.

Publication format

Please note the data is provided as a flat file CSV only. Due to the ongoing NHS England reorganisation it is unlikely there will be capacity for a further NEPTS data collection or publication of a dashboard as set out in the Data Provision Notice.
