These reports present findings from the Government's National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) for England. This programme is part of the Government’s approach to tackling child obesity by annually measuring the height and weight of children in reception (aged 4–5 years) and year 6 (aged 10–11 years) in mainstream state-maintained schools in England.

About this publication
Local Authorities in England measure children in mainstream state-maintained schools during the school (academic) year which starts in September and finishes in July. The statistical reports contain analyses of Body Mass Index (BMI) classification rates by age, sex and ethnicity as well as geographic analyses. Note that data for the 2020/21 school year was reported at national and regional level only due to COVID-19 disruptions to data collection.
Annual reports up to the 2023/24 School Year were published by NHS England.
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) published the 2024/25 annual report in November 2025, alongside updating the NCMP indicators on Fingertips.
