National Strategic Information Governance Network (SIGN)
The National SIGN brings together the chairs of a network of independent, regional and sector-specific information governance (IG) groups from across England.
These local and regional groups provide IG and data protection professionals across health and social care with peer support, networking opportunities, and access to best practice advice and guidance.
Many of these groups have been established for several years and serve as trusted forums for discussion and collaborative problem-solving. Issues identified within local groups are often escalated to the National SIGN.
Through this collaborative structure, the National SIGN works with central bodies and agencies, providing insight into the impact of current and emerging issues and helping to shape and influence national IG policy, advice and guidance.
Events, learning and recognition
The National SIGN delivers a programme of regular events, knowledge‑sharing sessions, and thematic learning opportunities designed to strengthen the IG community’s collective expertise and ensure best practice is consistently shared.
The network also hosts annual awards and recognition initiatives, celebrating excellence, innovation, and significant contributions made by IG professionals across the health and care sector. These activities both support the development of the IG community and highlight its achievements.
