An ELEMENT to represent the result of a measured non-invasive blood pressure. The default or standard recording of an observed blood pressure assumes that NICE guidelines on blood pressure taking are followed, i.e.:

• The patient is in a sitting position
• An appropriate device is used
• Korotkoff's 4^th sound is used for the diastolic pressure^1,3

The non-standard recording of an observed blood pressure may explicitly include one or more of the following:

• Position of the patient
• Type/size of cuff used
• Type of detection device used
• 4^th or 5^th Korotkoff sound used for diastolic pressure³
