Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services (NEPTS)

Data Provision Notice to require the submission of data from integrated care systems to enable the national monitoring of non-emergency patient transport services, to develop consistent data about activity, performance and costs.

Overview

This data collection has been stood up on behalf of NHS England following a review into Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services (NEPTS) which highlighted a lack of transparent and consistent data on activity, performance and costs.

Data will allow for national and integrated care board (ICB) views of NEPTS, to provide:

  • a better understanding of the provider landscape
  • assurance on performance and spend
  • opportunity for the identification and sharing of good practice
  • targeting of improvement support
  • opportunity for procurement based on realistic assumptions

Scope

This Notice is served on:

•    Integrated care boards (ICBs) and associated services for health and care provision and planning

Period

October 2025

DPN updated to reflect the change in frequency of collection and in the dissemination of all non-financial data via a digital platform.

DPN updated to reflect the introduction of vehicle level questions

DPN updated to support the revised 2023 data collection reflected in the requirements specification which came into effect in July 2023.
