Mr Christopher Barben

Chris was a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon in Liverpool from 2004. In addition to a full time clinical practice, he led clinical research projects and was an Internal Clinical Adviser to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. He entered medical leadership in 2015, with a role as Deputy Divisional Medical Director at Aintree Hospital and subsequently undertook the role of Associate Medical Director at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals. He undertook a Masters in Leadership and Quality Improvement at Ashridge Business School, sponsored by the Health Foundation.

In 2022, Chris gave up clinical practice, and became Executive Medical Director at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. In July 2025, he stepped down from that role and has moved into part time working.

In addition to the role with the Advisory Group for Data, Chris has taken up clinical practice again, undertaking endoscopy at two local hospitals in the North West.
